Northside Tutoring & Robert Feagin

The story behind Atlanta's boutique tutoring standard — and the educator who built it.

Robert Feagin, founder of Northside Tutoring

The Founder

Meet Robert Feagin.

Westminster · Stanford · Oxford. The seed of a boutique.

Robert's educational journey began at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta, where he excelled both in academics and leadership. From winning the Yale Book Award to becoming a National Merit Finalist, Robert was a standout student. He graduated third in his class and scored in the 98th percentile on the SAT.

After high school, Robert attended Stanford and Oxford, earning a degree in history. During his time at Oxford, he discovered the transformative power of one-on-one tutoring — the seed of what would become Northside Tutoring.

He worked extensively with students from different backgrounds, including tutoring a young student in East Palo Alto in English as a Second Language, and participated in after-school mentoring programs.

How Results Are Guaranteed

The Northside Method

Every student succeeds through our four-stage framework. No guesswork. No generic programs. Just precision tutoring that delivers measurable outcomes.

  1. I

    Assessment

We identify exactly where your child is — academically, emotionally, and strategically — before a single lesson is taught.

  2. II

    Perfect-Match Coach

Your child is paired with the ideal elite tutor for their goals, temperament, and learning style.

  3. III

    Bespoke Plan

A fully personalized roadmap built around how your child specifically gets stuck — and exactly what it takes to get them unstuck.

  4. IV

    Adaptive Coaching

Every session, we read what’s happening in real time and adjust. The right response to a student who is frustrated looks nothing like the right response to a student who is bored. We know the difference.

A Word from Northside

How SSAT tutoring transforms private school admissions

The Standard

Why choose Northside?

We have fifteen tutors who scored 1530+ on the SAT, several with perfect scores on both the SAT and ACT. Every tutor has deep expertise across subjects — the quality of our team is what makes us stand out in the Southeast.

Whether your child needs help in AP-level subjects, preparing for college entrance exams, or improving study skills, we have the team to help them succeed.

A Community Effort

More than tutors — partners.

Robert grew up in Buckhead's Tuxedo Park and is deeply connected to the Atlanta area. He is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta and active in both the Stanford and Westminster alumni associations.

At Northside, we are more than just tutors — we are partners in your child's educational journey.

Why Students Actually Improve

The Northside Approach

The most common mistake in tutoring is treating every student the same way. Cover the material. Assign the practice. See what sticks. This works for some students. For many, it does not — because the obstacle was never the content to begin with.

Over a career spanning more than twenty-five years and thousands of students, Robert Feagin developed a framework for understanding why a given student is struggling in this moment — and what that moment calls for. Not every student who is stuck needs more explanation. Some need to step back. Some need a confidence reset. Some need a foundational gap closed before the current material can make sense. Some need silence and space. Some need the right question asked at the right time.

This diagnostic precision, delivered with a level of compassion and attentiveness that goes well beyond what most families have experienced in tutoring, is the engine behind the results we see. It is also why students retain more. When learning is matched to where a student actually is in their learning journey — emotionally and academically — it lands differently. It sticks. The test gets passed, and the knowledge stays.

We do not share the internal mechanics of the Approach with families — and honestly, you should not have to think about it. You hired us to handle that part. What you will notice instead is a child who starts showing up to sessions without the dread, who asks questions they would have been too intimidated to ask before, and who starts to suspect that learning might actually be enjoyable.

We take what we do seriously. We just refuse to make it feel that way. Because the score matters — and so does the student behind it. We are developing critical thinkers, curious minds, and confident young people who will carry what they learn here into everything that comes next.

Most of all, we restore something that struggling students often lose along the way: belief in what is possible — and in where their learning journey can take them.

Our Story

The growth of Northside Tutoring

For over twenty-five years, Robert has poured his heart into building Northside Tutoring — initially as a one-man operation. Today, Northside has grown into a highly respected tutoring service with an elite team of expert tutors. What has never changed is the core of what we do: read each student precisely, understand why they’re stuck, and respond with the exact intervention that moves them forward.

We specialize in subjects ranging from math and science to college essays, and we prepare students for standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, and SSAT. Our tutors come from top schools — including Ivy League institutions — with a track record of helping students gain admission to prestigious colleges and private schools.
